Fishing applications and tapers Cane and Sjambok rods cover different territory. The summary below is informal — every fly fisher's water is different, and every rod we build is built for the particular angler. But the broad map is useful. **English chalkstreams (Test, Itchen, Kennet, Avon, etc.).** A 7'6" #4 split cane rod is the canonical chalkstream weapon. It lays a long line down quietly, presents a small fly accurately at twenty yards, and handles the brown trout and grayling that chalkstream fishing produces.
